StartupCity Principal Honored with Immigrant Award

Tej Dhawan will receive Immigrant Leadership Award on November 9



Des Moines, IOWA — October 28, 2013 — Tej Dhawan Principal of StartupCity Des Moines will be honored with the Immigrant Entrepreneurs Leadership Award at the sixth annual Immigrant Entrepreneurs Summit on Saturday, November 9, 2013, at Drake University’s Olmsted Center.


The Immigrant Leadership Award is given to a first generation immigrant who has demonstrated leadership and an entrepreneurial spirit in his/her professional and family life and on behalf of the immigrant and/or larger community. StartupCity Des Moines is a technology incubator in downtown Des Moines and focuses on mentoring early-stage tech companies. Dhawan has invested his time and energy on a full-time basis to the needs of the community with a specific focus on immigrants, education, and the startup and technology related fields, and has continued to give back to the community in many ways.


Dhawan, will be honored alongside Dr. Chirantan Ghosh, founder of The Ghosh Center for Oncology & Hematology, Comercializadora Del Midwest, LLC, and Iowa Center on Health Disparities and The Iowa Center for Immigrant Leadership and Integration, who will receive the Immigrant Spirit Award, Outstanding Immigrant Business Award, and Karen Evans Immigrant Champion Awards, respectively.
